Vest design for Bernie Shaw

I started making clothing art design in the early 1990’s, and continued with it very sparingly until 2003. This vest is one of the last pieces that I made for Bernie Shaw, called “Waking up the night”. This design was inspired by Bernie’s powerful voice, and one of the first songs I heard him sing called “Rain”.
The design is a mirrored human figure representing Bernie on either side of the moon signifying the night, with the tongues forming a microphone, and the frog representing communication to the world.
Bernie used this vest on stage for many concerts in Europe. This vest can be seen on Uriah Heeps, DVD, which is no longer available online. Bernie resides in England with his family. I met him while I lived in Victoria, through mutual friends. He likes Native West Coast design, which is also portrayed in a tattoo on his upper arm, and can also be seen in the image here.
